About Bark EUROPA

The Bark EUROPA was built in 1911 on the Stülcken wharf in Hamburg, Germany. In 1986 the ship was brought to the Netherlands for an 8 year renovation and re-rigging. Bark EUROPA follows the favourable winds of traditional sailing routes. This has brought her to all continents, sailing the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, thus earning her nickname Ocean Wanderer. From December to March, she conducts expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula. With 40 passengers, a crew of 16 and 3 expedition guides, an expedition on Bark EUROPA is a truly unique polar experience. Passengers become crew and participate in a watch system as well as help to sail the vessel through the infamous Drake Passage. No prior sailing experience is required. If you’re looking for a fully immersive Antarctic adventure, Bark EUROPA may be for you.

Why We Like Bark EUROPA

Unlike going on a cruise, on Bark EUROPA you will be going on a hands-on, active sailing adventure. Everyone on board is assigned to a watch in a rotating system, your primary duties will include steering the ship, keeping lookout, and assisting with sail handling, all with instructions from the permanent crew.

With long itineraries (22 days for Antarctica), Bark EUROPA focuses on taking it safe and slow, soaking up every moment.

Bark EUROPA has cabins with 2 bunks and 4-6 bunks, each with their own toilet and shower.

It doesn't get much more intimate or immersive than a 48 passenger tall ship! A truly unique experience unlike any other offered in Antarctic tourism.

From climbing the ship's rigging to laying on the bowsprit netting, you'll have the most unforgettable views of wildlife and scenery.
